SciRev Privacy policy

Submitting personal information to the SciRev.sc website (henceforth “Website”) implies that you trust us. We appreciate this trust and consider it a major priority to ensure the security and confidentiality of the personal information you provide to us. Before submitting your personal information, please read this Privacy Policy carefully, so that you have a clear idea of how we handle your information. By using the Website in any manner, you declare to agree with and be bound by the practices described herein. You may also want to read our Terms and Conditions in which we define the way we use terms such as "SciRev", "we", "our" and "us".

We may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes in the way we use personal information, we will notify you by posting the new Privacy Policy on the Website. You are bound by any changes in this Privacy Policy when you use the Website after such changes have been posted.

What information we collect from you

  1. We collect information you knowingly provide to us. This information is stored in a secured database that is kept by SciRev. For example, we collect information such as your name, email address, and affiliation. If you fill in our questionnaire, we also receive and store the information you provide us therein. You can choose not to provide us with certain information, but then you may not be able to register with us or to take advantage of some of the services we provide.
  2. We also collect traffic data about your usage of the Website. This includes information on log-in times, pages visited, duration, and activities while logged in. It also includes your IP address, information sent automatically by your web browser such as your browser software, preferred language, and the name of your operating system.

What we do with your information

You can be assured that SciRev will treat your personal information with the utmost care and confidentiality in accordance with the Dutch Law to Protect Personal Data (‘Wet Bescherming Persoonsgegevens’). Unless SciRev is legally obliged to do so by a court or a competent judicial authority, your information will not be passed on to any third party.

Personal information, like your email address, name, and affiliation, will be stored separately from substantial information you provide by filling in the SciRev questionnaire, submitting journal information, or in written or spoken communication with the SciRev team.

The major purpose of the personal information we collect from you is to be able to create a personal account for you and to check the trustworthiness of the information on which the SciRev ratings and journal information available at our Website are based. Such a check might include a comparison of your IP address with geographic or institutional information provided during the registration process.

Your email address will be mainly used to send a confirmation email during the registration process and for clarifying issues related to a questionnaire filled in by you or to journal information provided by you. We might for example need an extra check on a non-institutional email address or clarification of an impossible answering combination.

This Privacy Policy statement only applies to SciRev and the SciRev Website. It does not apply to websites belonging to third parties which can be found through links on the SciRev Website, nor to websites through which the SciRev website was reached. We are not responsible for the content on those websites.
