What information we collect from you
- We collect information you knowingly provide to us. This information is stored in a secured database that is kept by SciRev. For example, we collect information such as your name, email address, and affiliation. If you fill in our questionnaire, we also receive and store the information you provide us therein. You can choose not to provide us with certain information, but then you may not be able to register with us or to take advantage of some of the services we provide.
- We also collect traffic data about your usage of the Website. This includes information on log-in times, pages visited, duration, and activities while logged in. It also includes your IP address, information sent automatically by your web browser such as your browser software, preferred language, and the name of your operating system.
What we do with your information
You can be assured that SciRev will treat your personal information with the utmost care and confidentiality in accordance with the Dutch Law to Protect Personal Data (‘Wet Bescherming Persoonsgegevens’). Unless SciRev is legally obliged to do so by a court or a competent judicial authority, your information will not be passed on to any third party.
Personal information, like your email address, name, and affiliation, will be stored separately from substantial information you provide by filling in the SciRev questionnaire, submitting journal information, or in written or spoken communication with the SciRev team.
The major purpose of the personal information we collect from you is to be able to create a personal account for you and to check the trustworthiness of the information on which the SciRev ratings and journal information available at our Website are based. Such a check might include a comparison of your IP address with geographic or institutional information provided during the registration process.
Your email address will be mainly used to send a confirmation email during the registration process and for clarifying issues related to a questionnaire filled in by you or to journal information provided by you. We might for example need an extra check on a non-institutional email address or clarification of an impossible answering combination.
